Global Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary bachelors degree program focused on building a community of scholars.  Co-curricular activities are essential part of our community. While Liberal Studies students participate in many NYU activities and organizations, those sponsored by our program augment our curriculum and bring faculty and students together outside the classroom. Our colloquia, websites, and faculty-sponsored student organizations help students make connections among their Liberal Studies courses and between our curriculum and the cities in which they are studying it. Through co-curricular activities, we bring intellectual theory into contact with daily experience.

Annual program-wide events such as the address by the author of the Freshman Reading and the Liberal Studies Student-Faculty Colloquium bring renowned scholars and artists to speak to our students.  Recent visitors include Yale historian Jonathan Spence, philosopher Peter Singer, and former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins. Student organizations like the Liberal Studies Cinemathèque, the Economics Club, and the Politics Club offer smaller, regular forums for speakers and discussion on topics as diverse as film, international markets, and global current events. And our paper and web-based student publications such as the West 4th Street Review literary magazine and the Student Life Club blog provide forums for student voices.

The Liberal Studies Colloquium The annual Liberal Studies Colloquium brings students and faculty together to discuss a topic related to all of our core courses. Performance of Lysistrata by Liberal Studies Students in Florence Liberal Studies student Devon Irete was a freshman in Florence during the academic year 2007-08 when she organized her classmates into a production of the Greek comedy Lysistrata.
